2009 President’s Farewell Letter

As you know, my term as President has ended and I hope that during my term I have been able to make a positive impact on both the current and future of AITP. Thank you for the opportunity to lead and for your patience as I grew in my position. This is definitely one experience I will never forget!

My journey in leading the Association wasn’t done alone. I was accompanied by a team of dynamic individuals, both elected and not, who shared in our successes and learned from our failures.

So I would like to take this opportunity to thank a number of people for their hard work and dedication, and without whom running the Association wouldn’t have been possible.

In particular I’d like to thank my Executive Vice President, Beth Pirrie, for all her support and encouragement during my term, and all the members of the Executive Committee, our officers, and the Board of Directors for their dedication in serving with me.

I would be remiss if I did not recognize the true heroes this past year, our dedicated task force leaders and committee chairs and their volunteer members. There are not enough words to express the thanks and appreciation of these great leaders. For without their passion and undying commitment to devote thousands of hours of volunteer service, we would not have begun this journey of transformation or achieved any of our 2009 goals. Embracing change is difficult and these volunteers never lost sight of the Association’s strategic direction even when our road to success got bumpy or was detoured.

My sincerest thanks to our headquarters team: Eric Hawkinson, our Executive Director, for his mentoring and guidance, Kristine Collins for her tireless work organizing our 2009 Members Summit and managing our operations, and Melissa Lapsansky for taking care of our members and chapters. I am certain that we can continue to count on their valuable support of the Association in our 2010 year.

But most importantly, my thanks go out to you, the Members, for all your support during this year of change. For without you, the Association would not exist. It has been my pleasure to serve you.

In closing, I have one final request. I ask that each of you pledge your continued support to AITP and help our new Association leaders continue our journey to deliver the success our Association deserves.

As you know, we can do this. But only Together.

Recent mention of AITP In ComputerWorld (09-21-2009): See http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/342347/Crossing_the_Skills_Gap to read the main article ("CIOs complain college grads aren't ready for IT work") and the sidebar ("Pathways to the Real World of IT"), which mentions AITP:

One way CIOs can get involved is to sign up as speakers for on-campus career programs or to host on-campus meetings of IT professional associations, such as the Association of Information Technology Professionals or the Society for Information Management, and invite students to attend, says Dave Willmer, executive director of Robert Half Technology, an IT staffing firm in Menlo Park, Calif.

Press Release: Inside Business partners with AITP Press Release-InsideBusiness.pdf Keeping aligned with our 2009-2011 Strategic Plan, we have entered into an agreement with Inside Business hosted by Fred Thompson to provide a resource of expertise for their on air programs. This brand exposure is a tremendous opportunity for AITP. Over the next few months, we will be working with the Inside Business Sr. Producer and VP of Productions to develop a topic calendar and filming schedule for interviews with selective AITP leaders for their TV/web shows. Stay tuned!
